Protaras is a tailor made beach resort in the Larnaca region of South Cyprus which typically provides either a fun filled adventure holiday with a huge selection of water based activities or a quiet relaxing break on a peaceful beach. Protaras is a resort which was built with tourists in mind specifically those that want the beaches of Ayia Napa but a considerably quiet and less party focused holiday. The resort and all of its hotels, bars and restaurants tend to be centred around the two main beaches; Fig Tree Bay and Pernera Beach.

The climate in Protaras is hot and dry during the peak summer months with temperatures in August reaching an average high of 33.3 degrees centigrade even the winter temperatures are mild with the average lowest temperature of the year, in January being 8.1 degrees.

The combination of a great climate and beautiful beaches with warm sea water attracts many to this particular resort. The warm waters are some of the best in the Cyprus area and make it a great destination for those that wish to get involved in the water sports that are on offer such as snorkelling, jet skiing and surfing.

If you aren’t one for water sports or other such activities Protaras, Cyprus can be still a great destination for you as it is a considerably quieter resort compared with the likes of nearby party capital Ayia Napa. Protaras is a combination of the new tourist friendly facilities, clean beaches and the traditional side of Cyprus which can be found in the local shops, restaurants with authentic Cypriot food and bars with local entertainment.

The growth in popularity of the Protaras resort means that there are countless hotels, villas and apartments to choose from for your Cyprus holiday with many beach side spa resorts to help you spend the entire holiday relaxing and enjoying the scenery, food and weather on offer.

If you wish to explore the local area and towns surrounding Protaras there are many connections in the town to neighbouring resorts such as the popular holiday hotspot of Ayia Napa, a quick bus ride of approximately 10 minutes away.

I love water sports, so Protaras sounds like it would be right up my ally for a fun holiday with my family who also enjoy the water. Spa resorts are something my wife would love and I know I would love to treat her to a good time.

What is the best time of year to enjoy this paradise? It sounds like it is a mostly warm environment.
